Overview
The Pir Panjal range forms Kashmir’s southern wall — a high barrier of ridges, passes, and hidden valleys that separates the Kashmir Valley from the plains of Jammu. The Pir Panjal Lakes trek traverses this range from Yusmarg to Doodhpathri, passing through a series of remote glacial lakes at 3,800–4,200m that see virtually no tourist traffic.
This is one of the most geologically varied treks in Kashmir — you’ll cross granite boulder fields, walk along the edges of ancient glacial moraines, and camp beside lakes whose names don’t appear on most maps. Local knowledge from our guides is essential.
Trek Highlights
- Multiple high-altitude lakes — including Konsarnag (Snake Lake) at 3,700m, one of Kashmir’s most sacred and scenic alpine lakes
- Pir Panjal pass crossings — multiple passes above 4,000m with views to both sides of the range
- Remote wilderness camping — no other trekking groups, no fixed infrastructure, true wilderness experience
- Konsarnag wildlife sanctuary — Hangul (Kashmir stag), Himalayan black bear, snow leopard habitat
- Doodhpathri arrival — descend into the “Valley of Milk” — sweeping white meadows famous for spring wildflowers
